Mayra Flores Wins Election To Become A Republican In Texas
Republicans picked up a seat in the House on Tuesday with Mayra Flores’ expected to win in the Texas special election to fill a seat previously held by a Democrat.
Flores beat Democrat Dan Sanchez to represent the state’s 34th Congressional District with between 51 and 43 percent of the vote, with 97 percent of the expected vote, NBC News predicted Mayra Flores wins election.
Republicans filled the chair held by Representative Filemon Vela, the former vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee, who resigned in late March to take a job with the law firm and lobbyist Akin Gump.
However, Flores, believed to be the first Latina Republican to serve Texas in Congress, is expected to face a tougher race in November. Her victory is to replace the Party member. Democrat Filemon Vela, who retired before her term ended – means she was elected to serve the rest.
In the November general election, voters will determine who will be the county’s permanent congressional representative starting in 2022. Flores, who is running for the seat in the general election, will face off against Democratic candidate Vicente Gonzalez.
Gonzalez currently represents a neighboring congressional district. He was supposed to beat Flores in the vote. Mayra Flores wins election, helps republicans overthrow democratic seats.
Mayra Flores Wins Election, Flores’ victory comes as Republicans step up efforts to woo Latino voters and amid a flurry of polls and elections showing a broader shift among Latino voters leaving the Democratic Party owner.
“If you look at things like local elections in Texas, elections in New Jersey, elections in Nassau County, elections in Virginia, it all shows that Hispanics not only don’t step back but keep getting more Republicans than before,” David Shor, a left-wing political data analyst, told Yahoo News.
Indeed, Flores advertised her conservatism on the campaign trail. She invokes elements of Trump’s rhetoric and relies heavily on law and order motifs when describing her resume.
Flores, a respiratory care worker, was born in Mexico. On her website, Flores brags that her parents and grandparents “bred her up with strong conservative values and always put God and family first”.
She made it clear that her immigration to the United States at the age of six was done “legally” and “with the help of her father… brought her family the greatest gift, the gift of being a proud naturalized American citizen.”
Flores has also voiced support for “America First,” a call for clarification on the right-wing exception for those who feel abandoned by politicians. She claimed her county has long had to “beg for scraps from Nancy Pelosi” and said “for over 100 years, Democrats have despised the loyalty and support south Texas has given them in many decade”.
“They did nothing to earn our votes or our support,” Flores also said on her campaign website. She also blamed President Joe Biden for claiming he had signed “a record number of executive orders that kill Texas jobs, undermine border security, and remove protections for unborn babies.”
